Blu-ray Authoring Is Ideal for Distributing High Definition Video

Blu-ray authoring is a great way to showcase your high definition video work. An authored disc will look a lot more professional than a downcoverted DVD. Today more and more people are purchasing Blu-ray players to go along with their HD televisions. Many people also have high def video cameras. Even just for home movies a blu-ray will look much better than a DVD being upconverted to play on a high definition television set. Today standard def TVs are practically obsolete. So if your original tapes are from an HD source there is no reason not to go with a high definition disc format to keep up the quality.

Authoring with high definition video takes up a lot more space than standard def DVD authoring. But, the quality is far superior. A regular DVD can hold about 4.5 gigabytes of video while a Blu-ray typically holds 25 gigabytes unless you go with a dual layer disc that can hold up to 50 gigabytes. With the big jump in size you really need to use an up to date computer and the latest software to create the discs. With the right tools you can create discs that look just like the ones created by the big movie studios. A Blu-ray disc can have menus and slide shows along with video tracks. The discs are also more scratch resistant than a DVD so it will last longer and are less likely to suffer from bad playback like a scratched DVD. It is even possible for the discs to bring up the menu like an overlay and have much more interactivity. Blu-ray discs can communicate with the internet and allow you to access more up to date content.
